Meet-the-parents session 2014

It is the time of the year for us to meet and disucss the achievements your child has accomplished this second part of the year. Looking at the schedule, I have to meet 18 parents from 8am to 11.20am (FULL BOOKING). Hence, I would like to ask for your understanding that even if you have book at 10am, for instance, you might not be able to see me at 10am. Of course I will try to stick to the 10 min per child rule, but sometimes the conversation might continue.

If you see a long queue, then maybe you can go and see the Mother Tongue teachers first and come back to see me. Would really appreciate your understanding!! :D

Second, to make our discussion a fruitful one, I would like to request that you come with a list of questions that you want to ask me. For example:

1) What are the strategies that I can use to help my child in his Comprehension?

This way, I can answer to your questions directly, and we will all learn something from the discussion. :D

Thank You!!

Regards,
Irene

1 Peace Amazing Star 2014

Hi Parents,

Today is the performance for the P1 Amazing Star.

From a teacher's point of view, I truely think that 1Peace is a really awesome class. Each and everyone of them is so responsible and the moment I gave them the script, they took the initiative to memorize without me chasing after them.

We only had to rehearse 3 times and all of them got it! I'm really so blessed and proud to have them this year. :D

Composition test

Hi Parents,

I've managed to mark the latest composition homework and returned the book back to your child for revision over the public holiday. I've also given them a mock composition test just now. Here are some worrying things that I observed in their mock test:

1) Can't finish their story within the given time, 30 minutes

Some of them could not finish their story in the 30 minutes given. This is quite serious because their results will be 1 band down and if their content is insufficient, then they might fail the test.

2) Me and my brother, I and my family

I've nagged countless time, but 1 or 2 are still making this mistake. It should be my brother and I.

3) Finger spacing and 3 paragraphs

some of them are still not leaving 2 finger spacing at the start of the paragraph! this leads me to the next problem. They did not even write in 3 paragraphs!!

4) Not using the 4 pictures given

Some students only wrote based on the title and not the picture. This is clearly evident in their compo writing when they wrote about the beach and having a picnic when the picture depicts a PARK!

To help them write good introduction and conclusion, I've given them a template. Do guide them through using the template. I believe it will help them on Friday!

Hang on and all the assessments will be over soon! :)

No school from 14th Oct to 17th Oct

Hi Parents,

Just a reminder, there will be no lessons from the 14th oct to 17th October due to PSLE marking. I will be going to another school to do marking. :)

Meanwhile, try to do revision with your child as when they reutrn on the 20th October (monday), there will be many assessments coming their way.

Here are the assessment schedule:

1) 20th October (Monday)
Listening test

2) 24th October
Picture writing (composition)
They have to write a composition using the 4 pictures given on the day of assessment.

I will be giving them a compo to write during the holiday. Try to let them write on their own first, so you can have a rough gauge of how well they can write.

I have taught them to use an individual checklist (we created this checklist together as a class) to check their own writing. Please enforce this at home when they are writing as this will really reduce those unnecessary writing errors such as capital letters and paragraphing.

3) 30th October
Maths review test 5

Topics will include numbers to 100, add and subtract, time, money, multiplication and division.
Do get your child to MEMORISE the multiplication table for 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10!

And there is a difference when we write 2 x 5 and 5 x 2
2 x 5 means 2 groups of 5 whereas  5 x 2 means 5 groups of 2. Do ensure that they write the correct multiplication statement when they are practising at home.

4) 31st October
English Mini Test (STELLAR Units 9 to 13)

An important emphasis for this test is, to ensure your child answers in full sentences for the Comprehension. Do refer to The King's Cake unit to understand what I mean.
For example,  when your child writes

"once a year"  --> phrase, not a full sentence.

"He only gets to eat birthday cake once a year." --> full sentence! :D

Other than the assignments, I also have given them homework!

1) Helpful Eliasians @ home
Parents need to help your child to endorse this when they perform a certain household chore at home.
2) Multiplication and division worksheet
3) Composition
4) Signatture for Stellar unit and Maths

LASTLY, could all parents remind your child to bring another 30 clear plastic folders to be put into their portfolio file???

THANK YOU!

Children's Day

Dear 1 Peace,

HAPPY CHILDREN'S DAY!

There were so many fun and exciting programs lined up for them yesterday. First, they had fun playing at the Games Carnival that was organised by our Parent Volunteer Group. It was indeed a job well done. The children sure had their fun. Look at the pictures below and you will know how much effort was put in.

I personally love this 'tikam tikam' booth. LOADS of presents to be won!

After which, Spongebob Squarepants actually appeared in EPPS!! Look at how well received he was by the lower primary children.

Took a quick picture with Spongebob and Mdm Kamsiah! Both of us had to relish our childhood hahaha!

Following that, we went back to class and it was PARTY TIME! I went to Giant hyperstore the night before and bought bags and bags of tidbits for 1P! Saw many teachers doing last minute buying too. The shelves were practically empty!

1P children put on their handmade party hats, and I gave them each a personalised card and their presents. Do read the messages I wrote for them. While I was typing the messages, I could still remember the first time I saw each and every one of them. Time flies and they have all grown up. One day, they will no longer be under my care and I WILL DEFINITELY BE VERY SAD. :(

I was so busy giving out food during the party that I has no time to capture their happy faces. :( Oh well, we shall wait for next year!

On a side note, I also gave out multiplication table for them to memorize during these 4 days of holidays. That is the only homework I gave them. So when I see them next Tuesday, I will be testing them on multiplication table 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10. Apart from that, to reduce the torture of memorizing the numbers, I put it into a song and had given them the lyrics. I will be reinforcing the multiplication tables through the songs. :)

Take care, big hugs and I will see all of you next Tuesday
